Late Afternoon Perch
Late Afernoon Perch Auburn, California This is one of several wall murals commissioned by the City of Auburn, California. At first glance I thought that the character was enjoying a smoke, but the white areas around the face are just some sort of damage or weathering. Auburn is a colorful and storied town from the Great California Gold Rush of 1849. It is situated in the heart of California’s “Gold Country", a vast area of the western Sierra Nevada Mountains. Auburn was a major center of commerce, cavorting and justice, holding similar status to other gold towns such as Placerville, Sonora/Jamestown, and Nevada City. New Kid on the Rock
New Kid on the Rock Placer County, California Hi friends. I’ve been out of commission for a while. I’m slowly recovering and I hope to catch up on your posts very soon! As for the photo and title, I hope that you enjoy the word play as much as I did when I was dreaming it up! I couldn’t imagine these characters as friends in the same pasture, but the goats didn’t bother the heron at all. Strange! As an Air Force brat, I remember moving back and forth across the country. Each time, I would try my best to fit in as the new kid on the block. In Upstate New York, you couln't wear white socks or you'd be called names. In California, some 3,200 miles to the west, you couldn't wear anything BUT white socks or you'd be called names! The gathering in this photo reminded me of the way the local kids would gather to stare at the new arrival, and just how different I would feel in that .

Brave
This little tree frog is the bravest guy/gal I have seen in a long time, it didn't even squeeze it's eyes shut! :-) The one giving the sniffing is an old tomcat. He is past the point of tasting everything he encounters, he is happy to just check things out now. So I knew that no harm would come to this charming creature.. :).

Charmed
When I first saw this tree frog, it was funny watching it crawl out of the hole in the cement. It looked like a scene from a scary movie, it was very slow and deliberate. This little creature let me take it's photo and we just stared at one another. We were both curious and charmed by one another... :).
