Late Afernoon Perch Auburn, California This is one of several wall murals commissioned by the City of Auburn, California. At first glance I thought that the character was enjoying a smoke, but the white areas around the face are just some sort of damage or weathering. Auburn is a colorful and storied town from the Great California Gold Rush of 1849. It is situated in the heart of California’s “Gold Country", a vast area of the western Sierra Nevada Mountains. Auburn was a major center of commerce, cavorting and justice, holding similar status to other gold towns such as Placerville, Sonora/Jamestown, and Nevada City.
